Sheet mulching

Sheet mulching is a technique that will help the poor soils improve by adding organic material. By using a technique call "Lasanga " layers of cardboard overlapping by at least 6", manure, compost,and straw are laid down covering the entire area, ending with a depth of 3" to 12" of additional organic material. This will help even the worse soils be turned into a garden. Wool, cotton, old carpet (natural fibers), green manures, or any organic material which do not have dangerous chemicals in them can be used as layers. This will improve the soil by fungi, microorganisms, insects and worms working the layers and making new soil. Sheet mulching will help excude weeds and can be used for this purpose instead of herbicides.
